Selangor targets food tourism
THE chase to find the best foodie in town is on.
The Selangorlicious! team and Tourism Selangor have announced the inaugural Selangorlicious! Food Blogging Competition from May 1 to 31.
Winning bloggers have the opportunity to take home attractive prizes in cash and other goodies such as holiday trips, cameras and dinner vouchers.

“The primary aim of the competition is to put Selangor on the map as a food destination for local and foreign tourists.
“Just as health and education tourism have proven to be viable ideas, food tourism will prove to be equally interesting as the locals and visitors are always on the lookout to try something new,” said Selangor standing committee of tourism, consumer affairs and environment chairman Elizabeth Wong.
She added that bloggers using the social media platform would provide a credible source for people as it was word-of-mouth advertising and blogs were posted based on their experience and opinion.
Joint organisations are Storm Studio and Bright Lights After Midnight, two young creative agencies based in the Klang Valley who came up with the idea to promote food tourism in the state.
A host of activities have been planned throughout the year.
The competition will kick-start the promotion of Selangor as a food haven as the month of June 2012 has been picked as the official food month for Selangor.
“Selangorlicious! will mobilise a big number of bloggers into uncovering the delicious local delights in areas that are previously known to just a small group of people.
“Their posts in the blogs will encourage people to visit the various districts of Selangor as the competition covers the entire state,” said Tourism Selangor events and marketing manager Fazly Razally.
Existing and new bloggers are encouraged to participate in the competition.
The competition is open to local and foreigners of all ages. Participants are to eat in any food outlet, big or small eateries, from restaurants to stalls.
Home-cooked meals are not accepted. Bloggers are to write about their experience in about 400 to 800 words. Each entry must be accompanied with photos of the meal submitted to www.selangorlicious.my
