Minister pleased with improvement at Puduraya

Nong Chik pleased with improvement made at Puduraya terminal

FEDERAL Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the newly-upgraded Puduraya Terminal is much better than the one in New York.

Nong Chik, who visited New York recently, had the opportunity to use the city’s transport terminal and finds the Puduraya Terminal superior.

“The people have to love the facilities here and change their attitude about Puduraya. Do not treat the Puduraya of today as you did the Puduraya of yesterday,’’ he said.

Nong Chik, who made his first working visit to the terminal on Thursday after it was opened to the public on April 16, said he was pleased with the progress of the terminal.

The minister commended UDA Holdings Berhad for the improvements, especially in terms of passengers’ convenience and comfort.

“I was also told the terminal’s surau, which can accommodate 600 people now, has been given the go ahead from Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department (Jawi) to conduct Friday prayers soon,’’ he said.

UDA Holdings managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan said the management was working together with the traders at the terminal to iron out problems relating to high rental and matters like lack of business at the food court on the 4th floor.

“We are talking to them and will look into their grouses,’’ he said.

Puduraya terminal was opened in 1976 by the late Prime Minister Tun Hussein Onn.

It underwent a massive upgrade following a directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who visited the terminal during one of his walkabouts last year.

It caters to all inter-city buses and north-bound express buses.
