Selangor to pick the best dishes

Selangor to hold competition to pick the best dishes

WHAT is the official food of Selangor? While everyone knows that Penang is famous for its nasi kandar and char koay teow, and Malacca for its Nyonya and Portuguese cooking, Tourism Selangor is embarking on a campaign to promote food tourism in the state and hopefully discover Selangor’s best food.

Calling it “Selangorlicious!” the campaign will be the official banner to spearhead all food related tourism activities and events in Selangor.

In conjunction with the campaign, state assistant exco for Tourism, Environmental and Public Affairs Edward Lee recently launched the Selangorlicious! Foodster Bloging Competition 2011, where bloggers are invited to identify and write about the best food places in Selangor.

“We hope this competition will reveal Selangor’s best food.

“Hence, one of the main objectives of this campaign is to identify eating places unique to this state and turn it into a ‘brand name’, so to speak,’’ Lee said.

“Selangor encourages these collaborations as they often result in wonderful ideas that leverage on the strengths of both worlds.

“Throughout this year we will see many other interesting ideas taking place as a result of the private sector coming together with Tourism Selangor to promote the state,’’ he said.

The competition started yesterday and will end on May 31 alongside with the website www.selangorlicious.com that goes live concurrently with the launch.

The winning entry alongside the best selected photographs of food will take home attractive prizes of cash and goodies such as holiday trips, cameras and meal vouchers.

“This is an excellent way to identify the best foods and its many varieties found in Selangor in a relatively short time.

“We encourage everyone, not just existing bloggers but those with no blogging experience to participate,’’ added Lee.

Those interested can submit their write-ups of between 200 to 400 words in length, written in either English or Bahasa Malaysia.

Each write-up must be accompanied by 10 photographs (in jpeg format), two photos of the eatery’s exterior, two photos of the interior and six photos of the food served.

Participants must sign up for a username and password at www.selangorlicious.my
